Know that incredible feeling you get when you click a button (or enter the next aisle of a store) and — voila — you find exactly what you were hoping for? It’s so great, even more so because it doesn’t happen very often.
We have more resources for searching than we know what to do with, but they are only as good as what we put into it and, well, sometimes we just don’t “know it until we see it.”
That’s one of the reasons personal recommendations are the best — the personal recommendations made by a human, hopefully one with taste and a healthy respect for budget. We (Sabrina and Erika) have a list of favorites to share after a year of working on she shed designs and our new store. You’ll find products mostly, but we also threw in a too-cute Christmas treat to make. We hope you like them and that they help you with life and living plans of your own. Most of these are on the diminutive side, so that if you choose to, you can add them to your she shed plans. Or garden shed. Or art studio. Or whatever small space that is your very own.
Enjoy!
My Little Christmas
Hobby Lobby does a lot of things right but this little line is brilliant. Started in 2016, My Little Christmas is all about miniature trees, maybe 1 or 2 feet tall, and scaled ornaments to match. As I gaped at everything the other day, I also saw miniature garland, tree skirts, tree toppers and even ornament hooks that fit the little balls. Miniature trees provide fantastic insta-festivity to front porches, dining room tables, mantles, guest rooms and yes … SHE SHEDS. $1.49 – $9.99
Strawberry Santas
Strawberries are usually available year-round and really, they are the perfect color for Santa riffing. Kelly Dixon of Smart Schoolhouse created these easy little Santa heads with berries and a swirl of frosting. You can find the 5-step recipe here and then impress the heck out of the office gang, your kids, the book club, or all of the above. About $8 to make
Metal Window Box
Reminiscent of old-fashioned copper downspouts and rain gutters, this metal window box is ridiculously easy to mount on your front porch railing. In spring and summer, move it to an open shed window ledge or picket fence. Can’t you picture petunias, geranium, or pansies growing in profusion in these babies? Measures 10″ high and 14″ wide. $25
Sparkling Light
No chandelier? No problem. You can transform any hanging light — heck, even a light bulb on a cord — into a glamorous sparkling statement piece. It works off an e26 bulb base, which is the common household size. This chrome shade has lacy cutouts to let the light shine through, and comes with generous acrylic beading. $39.99
Cedar Vertical Herb Garden
If anyone is struggling to find you a one-of-a-kind garden gift, text them the link to this ingenious little vertical planter. Made with handsome cedar that stands up to the elements, this 4-box ladder leans against a wall (or stands on its own with an included back leg) and just begs to be filled with some parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. The base extends out to 28″ and the whole thing is 35″ tall. It will fit practically anywhere! $152
Handmade Copper Weathervane
Your weather app doesn’t have anything on the beauty of a hand made weathervane. We found these lovelies out in Maine; you won’t believe how many different designs there are to choose from! We chose the mermaid though, because Sabrina really, really loves mermaids. Made for small structures, these weathervanes measure about 18″ tall and come with either an adjustable eave mount or a roof mount. $179
Our Favorite Wreath
It’s the workhorse wreath that looks gorgeous anywhere. This 12″ boxwood wreath comes with or without berries, with or without ribbon … just the way you want it. Get one for every door in the house or place on chair backs for a festive meal. $22 (with berries)
Hanging Bud Vases
If you’re into DIY you could totally make these yourself. But sometimes it’s nice to indulge, like with these pre-made darling hanging bud vases. Hanging them in windows captures the light and the eye in wonderful ways. Cluster them or display a single one with your favorite bloom. Comes with attached jute hanging string. $6
Felt Birdhouse
Can’t fit a she shed in your yard? At least give one to the birds. Check out this charming felt birdhouse made in the shape of a Swiss chalet. These handicrafts are created by women in Kathmandu using fair trade practices and eco-friendly resources (in this case sustainably harvested sheepswool). $38
